Arts

The arts form the foundation of our cultural heritage. They deepen one’s understanding of self and identity, while bridging communities and instilling civic pride. The visual arts sector in Singapore has grown steadily over the years, with the growth in our exhibition and museum scene, as well as art businesses ranging from auction houses, conservators, art logistics providers, and art printers setting up base in Singapore to serve the Asia Pacific market. The vibrant visual arts scene is supported by strong infrastructure and diverse programming platforms such as Singapore Art Week and the Singapore Biennale.

Growth Opportunities

More Singaporeans are visiting arts and cultural events, and visitorship to our National Museums and Heritage Institutions hit an all-time high of almost 4 million visitors in 2015. The visual arts account for almost 30% of employment in the arts and cultural sector.

In November 2015, National Gallery Singapore was unveiled as the world’s leading public collection of modern art from Singapore and Southeast Asia. The Gallery aims to be the centre to open minds and shape perspectives through art, with research, exhibitions and publications on modern art of the region. Since then, it has collaborated with international arts institutions such as Centre Pompidou, Tate Britain, Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art and Musée d'Orsay to present Southeast Asian art in the global context.
