3. Test details
The schedule for the AEIS tests is as follows:
- Sec 1 test on Tuesday, 22 September 2020.
- Sec 3 test on Wednesday, 23 September 2020.
- Sec 2, Pri 4/5 tests on Thursday, 24 September 2020.
- Pri 2/3 test on Friday, 25 September 2020.
Your child has to arrive by the reporting time stated on their entry proof and sit at their assigned desks at least 15 minutes before the tests begin. They are required to bring along the following documents:
- Their original passport.
- A copy of their entry proof issued by SEAB.
Preparing for AEIS test
Your child needs to be familiar with the English and Mathematics topics taught in our mainstream schools for the level preceding the one that they applied for.
For example, if your child wishes to seek admission to Secondary 3, they should be familiar with Secondary 2 content. If your child wishes to seek admission to Primary 3 and is assigned the Primary 2/3 test, they should be familiar with Primary 2 content.

Test details
English test
The English test comprises 34 multiple-choice questions on comprehension and language use. Your child will be given 1 hour to complete the test:
- Comprehension based on 2 passages (6 items)
- Comprehension cloze based on 2 passages (10 items)
- Vocabulary (5 items)
- Grammar (5 items)
- Spelling (8 items)
Mathematics test
The Mathematics test comprises 2 parts. Your child will be given 25 minutes to complete Part 1 and 40 minutes to complete Part 2:
- Part 1: Multiple-choice questions (29 items)
- Part 2: Short-answer questions (17 items)
The use of calculators is not allowed. For short-answer questions, your child will have to show the method of solution (working steps) clearly and write the answer in the space provided.
English test
The English test comprises 2 parts. Your child will be given 2 hours to complete Part 1 and Part 2. The paper is taken in a single sitting:
Part 1: Writing.
- 2 topics are set, one of which comes with a picture. Your child has to choose 1 topic and write a composition of at least 100 words on it.
Part 2: Comprehension and language use. 50 compulsory multiple-choice questions comprising:
- Comprehension based on 2 passages (10 items)
- Comprehension cloze based on 2 passages (12 items)
- Vocabulary (14 items)
- Grammar (14 items)
Mathematics test
The Mathematics test comprises 2 parts. Your child will be given 35 minutes to complete Part 1, and 50 minutes to complete Part 2:
- Part 1: Multiple-choice questions (30 items).
- Part 2: Short-answer questions (8 items) and open-ended questions (6 items).
The use of calculators is not allowed. For short-answer and open-ended questions, your child will have to show the method of solution (working steps) clearly and write the answer in the space provided.
English test
Your child will be given 2 hours 10 minutes to complete the test which comprises 2 parts:
Part 1: Writing.
2 topics are set for Sec 1 test, and 4 topics are set for Sec 2 and Sec 3 tests.
Your child has to choose 1 topic and write a composition on it:
- 200 to 300 words for Sec 1 test.
- 250 to 350 words for Sec 2 test.
- 300 to 400 words for Sec 3 test.
Part 2: Comprehension and language use. 50 compulsory multiple-choice questions comprising:
- Comprehension based on 2 passages (15 items)
- Comprehension cloze based on 2 passages (15 items)
- Vocabulary (10 items)
- Grammar (10 items)
Mathematics test
The Mathematics test comprises 2 parts. Your child will be given 30 minutes to complete Part 1, and 1 hour 45 minutes to complete Part 2:
- Part 1: Multiple-choice questions (34 items).
- Part 2: Short-answer questions (20 items) and open-ended questions (10 to 15 items).
